Manchester United has had an abysmal start to the season at best, shipping six goals to Brighton and Brentford combined. They find themselves at rock bottom of the table, albeit after just two games. A point-hungry Liverpool side meets them at Old Trafford next week. A task that Red Devil fans will be watching from behind the couch.

Last season’s top-six finish already looks like a tough ask. Which in reality, is far from surprising. With eighteen league goals last year, Christiano Ronaldo propelled a mediocre side to European football. The former Real Madrid man hasn’t been banging in the goals this season which has led to Tan Hag’s side being exposed for their dependency on him.
A pre-season saga over his commitment to the club as he allegedly returned to training late on, only to hand a transfer request. Arguably, it has dragged his name through the mud to an extent.
The 37-year-old is far from happy with this speculation and has tarnished many of these stories’ legitimacy. Furthermore, he promises to reveal his side of the story in time. He said “The media only spouts lies. I have a notebook and out of the last 100 news stories that have been written (about me), only five have been accurate. You can imagine the way things are. Bear that figure in mind.” Later he promised that “you’ll all know the truth when I do an interview in a few weeks’ time.”
Sky Sports Pundit Neville has tweeted on his former teammate to step up now however saying “Why does the greatest player of all time (in my opinion) have to wait two weeks to tell Manchester United fans the truth? Stand up now and speak. The club is in crisis and it needs leaders to lead. He’s the only one who can grab this situation by the scruff of the neck!”
Good idea, in theory, Gary. Not happening though. Ronaldo isn’t daft and will be looking to save this for a popcorn occasion. With millions gathering around the TV as he makes yet more publicity out of the situation and fights in his corner.

Otherwise, it could simply be a tactic to remove the spotlight on him for a while and hope people move on. The chances of that happening are slim. That idea relies on his side winning week in, week out, so yes, pretty slim.
All this saga really does is highlight the terrible situation Manchester United currently finds itself in. Relying on a 37-year-old to drag you through the season is grim, no matter who that man is.
